My Destination Spotlight
Short for time? Or simply looking for some quick, globe-trotting inspiration? Use my easy snapshots below for some simple travel advice and a brief insight into some of the places I have visited across the world. Where will be your next destination?
Budapest, Hungary
Wonderfully cheap and cheerful! Budapest offers the perfect option for a weekend, city break. With an abundance of tourist sites to keep you busy, it is a very easy city to explore on foot making it ideal for a short getaway. Great for lovers of history and beautiful architecture, as well as keen foodies, Budapest is fast becoming one of Europe's most-loved short-break destinations!
Ilha Grande, Brazil
This popular tourist destination about an hour from Rio de Janeiro offers some of the most unspoilt, scenic beaches in Brazil. Take an exciting trek through the island's forests to reach remote, white, sandy beaches with crystal clear waters. This stunning island is well-worth a visit on any trip to Brazil.
Viñales, Cuba
A small town in the Pinar del Río Valley, Viñales is an example of quintessential Cuba. A stark contrast to gritty Havana, enjoy the rural life and take a horseback ride into the Valle de Viñales to explore the famous coffee and tobacco farms where you will be shown how to roll your very own Cuban cigar.
Glenfinnan, Scotland
Head to the viewpoint in the centre of the hamlet where you will be able to take in the sights of the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct. The views over the loch behind the observation area are equally as spectacular!
Playa de Bolonia, Spain
Located in the municipality of Tarifa, a well-known surfer paradise in the very south of Andalusia, this beach is simply not to be missed! This sandy bay hosts an unspoilt, semi-virgin beach with the dramatic backdrop of an immense sand dune and views across to Africa.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
La Boca, one of Buenos Aires most well-known neighbourhoods, is a wonderfully bright and colourful tourist hotspot for good reason. Though still a rough and gritty area of the city, these days the former shipyard is popular with tourists who flock to capture vibrant photos of the rickety buildings and local artists.
Huacachina, Peru
A desert oasis which fascinates tourists for its unique landscape. A backpackers favourite, this place is perfect to enjoy some sand sports before watching the sun set over the dunes.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Known for its elaborate canal system, Amsterdam is the perfect long-weekend break. Take in the beautiful architecture by wandering around the city on foot, or by joining the many who choose to explore by bike. You will never be short of things to do in the city with a range of museums, galleries, cafés, bars, restaurants, parks and shops.
Tolú, Colombia
Off the typical tourist track, Tolú is one of the country's most popular destinations for Colombian tourists. The beaches are not the most stunning you will see in the whole of Colombia, but the town of Tolú has a fun vibe and feels much more authentic than some of Colombia's more touristic beach towns.
Ferraria, the Azores
Located in the west of the island of São Miguel, Ponta da Ferraria is home to a natural swimming pool with spectacular views out into the ocean. Head to the spa here for less icy dip!
Arequipa, Peru
Peru's 'white city', Arequipa is a place not to be overlooked. With almost a European feel, Arequipa gives something different to the rest of Peru, and something you don't want to miss! The city offers fantastic restaurants, architecture, and history- ensure you visit the Monasterio de Santa Catalina!
Afitos, Greece
Afitos, Halkidiki, is a gorgeous hilltop village which looks over the sea below. On the eastern side of the Kassanda peninsula, this rustic, cobbled street village is the perfect place for a summer holiday. Hire a car so that you can explore the local coastline and make the most of the beach location!
Nottingham, UK
My home city, and one steeped with history. Nottingham is not only famous for the legend of Robin Hood, but also its lace market, its role in the bicycle industry, and also as the birthplace of fashion designer Paul Smith.
Trinidad, Cuba
A colourful colonial town. Spend a few days here to explore the gorgeous cobbled streets, to adventure in the local mountains, and to take a trip to the most stunning wild beaches nearby!
Glen Nevis, Scotland
A lovely short walk through the dramatic scenery at Nevis Gorge leads you to the incredible Steal Falls, one of Scotland's highest waterfalls.
