Here are my five top tips for why to visit Cuba:
1. History and Politics - They say Cuba is a 'place frozen in time'. From it's streets filled with classic cars, to the lack of public Wi-Fi, you will notice that this place is different as soon as you get off the plane. It is like stepping back in time; you won't find a McDonald's or a Starbucks anywhere! Wherever you go, instead of adverts for food outlets and multinational corporations, there are slogans written on huge billboards alongside the faces of key Cuban figures spreading political messages to the people across the land.
2. Spanish - Improve your Spanish! Cubans love to hear you try to improve your language skills. The best way to do this is to immerse yourself in the language by staying with a local in a 'Casa Particular' where you rent a room in someone's house. You will also be offered breakfast, and sometimes even dinner too for a great price. Enjoy getting to know your host and hearing what they have to say about their fascinating country, all whilst advancing your Spanish language skills.
3. Rum - Rum is Cuba's most famous drink, and a visit to Cuba is not complete without sampling Havana Club Rum in the country it originated from. Visit a museum and watch the rum-making process, or head to a bar and simply sample the variety of rum-based drinks on offer!
4. Beauty - Whether you are exploring one of Cuba's most stunning beaches, strolling the colourful streets and taking in the spectacular architecture of Cuba's cities, or adventuring into the mountains, you will be overwhelmed by the variety of beautiful sights this country has to offer.
5. Music and Dancing - Wherever you go in Cuba, you will hear salsa or reggaeton music playing, whether it be at a house, a bar, a shop, a street artist, or even just someone playing it out loud from their phone! Salsa dancing is never too far away either! Whether you take a class in a local salsa school, or simply visit a local bar, you will undoubtedly find yourself dancing by the time you have finished your first mojito!
