Five Top Tips: Places to Visit on the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Here are my five top tips for places to visit on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico:

1. Chichén-Itzá, Valladolid - Set your alarm and head there early to avoid the queues and the heat of the sun. Explore the ruined, ancient Maya city and learn about the history UNESCO World Heritage Site has to offer. Stop off at Cenote Ik-Kil on your way back to Valladolid to cool off in the huge, natural pool after your morning in the sun.

2. Playa Punta Cocos, Isla Holbox - One of the most stunning and unique beaches on this coastline; enjoy the shallow waters at this peaceful paradise on the western side of the island.

3. Gran Cenote, Tulum - Just a few kilometres outside of Tulum centre, visit this cenote for the opportunity to swim with turtles! As it is a small cenote arrive early to see it before the crowds, and as the sun rises and beams down onto the water, watch it turn a beautifully irresistible turquoise colour.

4. Playa Paraíso, Tulum - One of the most popular beaches in Mexico, Playa Paraiso offers a long stretch of white, sandy beach backed with numerous chic beach bars where you can enjoy some fresh ceviche whilst watching the waves sweep across the shore.

5. Cenote Suytun, Valladolid - This cenote is also worth visiting as soon as it opens for the day for a relaxing experience and the best photo opportunities! The cenote is deep inside a cavern, making it a peaceful place to enjoy an early morning swim.
