Five Top Tips: Where to go on the Yucután Peninsula, Mexico

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Here are my five top tips for where to go on the Yucután Peninsula in Mexico:

1. Tulum - Tulum offers so much variety including a stunning beach at Playa Paraíso, Mayan ruins which are also located on the beach, as well as a variety of cenotes- be sure not to miss the Gran Cenote where you can swim with turtles! The town centre is full of cute, chic cafés, and lively bars to enjoy in the evening. Whether you stay at a cheaper hostel in town, or at a hotel on the beach, you will love the style and range available here!

2. Isla Holbox - A laid-back, lazy island that you won't want to leave! Colourful buildings, tasty food, beaches with fine, white sand and clear greenish waters, you will love leaving behind the tourists the rest of this area of Mexico attracts. Enjoy the wildlife and unwind in the tranquility of the island- it is worth the journey!

3. Valladolid - This city finds itself slightly off the typical tourist trail and is the perfect location to spend a couple of nights when visiting Chichén-Itzá and the surrounding abundance of cenotes.

4. Isla Mujeres - A holiday hotspot, yet slightly less overwhelmed with tourists than Cancún. Stay outside of the main town to avoid the crowds, rent a golf cart to explore the island, and enjoy one of the stunning white sand beaches with crystal clear waters- the most popular being Playa Norte- until the sun sets over the water.

5. Cancún - The perfect place to chill-out for a few days before exploring more of what the area has to offer. Be prepared for lots of tourists in the Zona Hotelera, but enjoy the sun and the long, sandy beaches.
