Five Top Tips: What to do at Costeño Beach, Colombia

Here are my five top tips for what to do at Costeño Beach:

1. Visit the beach – Playa Corchales, better known by visitors to the area as Costeño Beach, offers over four kilometres of palm-lined beach, and is a pretty special spot to visit. Although some days the current is strong so swimming is not advised, this is a great spot to try your hand at surfing, practice volleyball, or even just take a long walk along the golden sand and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings of the Caribbean waters backed by the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It is a place you will never forget.

2. Meet people and socialise – Costeño Beach has an abundance of accommodation options to suit different budgets and needs. Many people who head here are looking to stay at one of the hostels where backpackers flock to meet and enjoy the laid back, social scene. The music can go on late into the night with karaoke, salsa nights hosted by local music groups, and various other live music events.

3. Take a day trip to Tayrona National Park – If you are on a tight schedule and cannot afford to spend a night or two staying within Tayrona National Park itself, it is only a fifteen minute bus ride to the entrance of the park from Costeño Beach making it more ideal than travelling from Santa Marta city itself for a day trip. Most accommodations at Costeño Beach even offer a free luggage storage service if you do choose to spend a night in the park and don't want to take your big backpack with you- which I definitely don't recommend doing!

4. Chill – If you’re looking to relax and switch off, there is no place better to do so. Waking up to the sounds of the ocean, the sand beneath your feet, and the whole day to sit in a hammock and read your book; there’s really nothing more relaxing than this. Most accommodations in the area offer daily yoga classes to help you truly switch off and unwind.

5. Luxury – Fancy something more luxurious? Why not try one of the area’s boutique style lodgings? Blue Mango Beach Hotel offers a variety of room types to suit different budgets, with a gorgeous pool and tasty treats from the on-site beach restaurant to help you fully switch off and enjoy your stay.
