Here are my five top tips for where to eat out in Olhão:
1. Chá Chá Chá – One of the best restaurants in the area, and somewhere you will want to go back to! Try a selection of tapas for starters, followed by some fresh fish or seafood for main, and it is essential to leave room for dessert! The friendly service will leave you with a smile on your face. After your visit, you will join me in recommending this place to everyone you know!
2. Há do Amador – Located on Avenida 5 de Outubro, this restaurant serves wonderfully-cooked fresh fish and seafood. You must head inside and check-out the cathedral style interior!
3. Restaurante Ría Formosa – This restaurant is named the ‘King of Cataplanas’ and it lives up to its name! The prawn and clam cataplana is the best I have ever had, stacked high with piles of seafood, and for an incredibly low price! This place is a must-visit!
4. Real Petisqueira – Also situated on Avenida 5 de Outubro, the staff here will entice you in with their charm, and the fresh fish will leave you very happy! Try the Olhanense skate served with potatoes and garlic for a very local, tasty dish!
5. Zona Cocteleria – Relaxed cocktail bar by the waterfront, perfect for either a sunset beer or a post dinner tipple!
Extra tip: Book ahead for restaurants in summer to avoid missing out!
