[PART 2] Five Top Tips: What to pack when backpacking

Here are my five top tips for what to pack when backpacking:

1. Sun cream – Take some with you! You can of course buy more at your destination, but places in Latin America and Southeast Asia can charge a small fortune for sun cream.

2. Universal adapter plug – These are super-handy for travels as they can be used pretty much anywhere in the world! Most also come with USB ports so you can charge your phone whilst having other items plugged in at the same time.

3. Neck travel pillow – A neck pillow is the perfect companion for that extra bit of comfort on your long days of travel, and overnight bus journeys.

4. Jumper – Although you may think you are heading off to a tropical destination where you will only need summer clothes, nights can be much cooler than you imagined, and buses and hostel rooms can get really cold from the AC. Depending on where you are travelling, it is probable that you will pass through different microclimates as well, and will be pleased that you have brought more layers with you!

5. Notebook – You might not think you are a diary writer, but when you read back over your notes from your travels, you will be pleased you took the time to write it. Those small little things that make you laugh each day on your travels that you forget over time, will make you still smile years down the line!
