Five Top Tips: A Weekend in Seville, Spain

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Here are my five top tips for a weekend in Seville:

1. Visit the Real Alcázar - Book in advance to avoid the queues at this royal palace which boasts spectacular Moorish architecture and is home to some of Seville's most stunning azulejos (tiles) for which the city is famous for.

2. Plaza de España - Found in the Parque de María Luisa, this fascinating monument has to be one of the prettiest in the world. Although slightly away from the city centre, it must not be missed! You may even be lucky enough to catch some locals practising flamenco in the shade of the building.

3. Eat at Perro Viejo - Interesting tapas in a beautifully restored three-story building. Tantalising dishes which combine Andalusian and Asian cuisines at a really good price.

4. Climb Las Setas - The Metropol Parasol wooden structure was completed in 2011; its modern design, which is a stark contrast to the typical architecture found in Seville, caused lots of controversy at the time it was created. However, a trip to the top of this monument is well-worth the views across the city and you may find you think it is actually quite spectacular!

5. A drink by the side of the River Guadalquivir - Head to the Mercado Lonja del Barranco and sit down by the river for a drink at the bar. If you're hungry, the market in a beautiful building designed by Gustav Eiffel, has some delightful gourmet treats which can be enjoyed in the outdoor seating area.
