Here are my five top tips for the best beaches to visit in the province of Cádiz:
1. El Palmar, Vejer de la Frontera - A long, beautiful beach backed by a sandy promenade lined with quirky shops, bars and seafood restaurants. This spot is brimming with surfers making the most of the spectacular waves at this beach. Head to the town of Vejer de la Frontera after your day in the sun, and dine in one of the outstanding restaurants this stunning pueblo blanco has to offer!
2. Costa Ballena, Rota - Kilometres upon kilometres of fine, sandy beach, it is a favourite amongst locals for its safe, clean waters, and its huge amount of space to find your own spot on the sand. Easily accessible by road or bike, this is the perfect beach to unwind and relax for an afternoon.
3. Playa de los Alemanes, Zahara de los Atunes - This beach is protected from the strong, levante winds by the dramatic mountains which surround it. Although this secluded beach is slightly more difficult to reach, this means that the crystal clear waters can be enjoyed in tranquility away from some of the area's busier beaches.
4. Playa de Bolonia, Tarifa - A remote, white sand beach famous for its huge sand dune which can be explored on foot. The beach is backed by Roman ruins, and is situated just 20km from Tarifa- Spain's most southern city. On a clear day, you can even see across to Morocco from the shore!
5. Beaches of Sanlúcar de Barrameda - The unique setting at the mouth of the River Guadalquivir and surrounded by the Doñana National Park makes the beaches of Sanlúcar incredibly special. Walk for miles along the beach, stop in Bajo de Guía to sample some of the fine wine and fresh seafood, and enjoy this one of a kind location. Enjoy a glass of manzanilla wine in a chiringuito on the beach in the evening to experience one of the most stunning sunsets you'll ever see!
